10 Simple Ways to Make the most of a Decluttering Project

When you’re house proud, you’ll always want to make sure that your home looks great. But when you’re busy, decluttering can be really hard to stay on top of.

Even when you have the best time organising your home from the beginning, it can all go out of the window pretty quickly. Life takes over and you tend to forget about keeping everything together.

Even if things don’t get all that bad, but you’re not too impressed with how things look, then you may find that it’s time to take on a decluttering project. And as much of a big job that it can seem, when you’re actually doing it – or more so when you’re done, it can feel amazing.

But, at the same time, it’s hard not to realize just how much of a big job decluttering can be. When you know that you’re going to be pulling everything out at home, and you’re going to be in a bit of a big mess at some point, you have to know that it’s going to be worth it.

This is why it can be really helpful to have a bit of a plan from the start. Not only do you want to make sure that this is going to take as little time as possible, but it’s also good to use some tactics to make sure that things go well. So let’s take a look at some tips to help you to do exactly this.

Start In One Room

To get yourself off on the right foot, you need to make sure that you do this decluttering in a logical order. And that means starting in just one room.

If you were to find yourself beginning in one room, then moving to the next, and so on, you’d cause all kinds of chaos. So don’t. Instead, you should make sure that you just begin in one room, finish that off completely, and then move on to the next.

This is going to be the most efficient way of doing things.

Be Ruthless

When you’re doing a huge declutter, it’s important to do a clear-out at the same time. There’s definitely not much point in moving a pile of junk from one room to the next.

Instead, make sure that you’re ruthless with what you get rid of. Ask yourself questions to be sure of what you should keep and find an organized home for, or what you should throw out.

Set Up Organizational Processes

Next, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re able to keep everything as organized as possible. It’s going to be important for you to organize your paperwork, in particular.

Whether you have a home office or not, you should find that coming up with a filing process helps you with decluttering to keep everything organized, so you know where it all is.

Invest In More Storage

From here, you should then think about your storage. The main reason for you having to do this in the first place is likely to be that you just don’t have enough storage.

That’s why clutter piles up. So, your next move will be to invest in more storage so that you have a better chance of keeping things more organized.

Display Memories

If you come across things that are memories, then why not think about displaying them? Put ornaments out in different rooms or hang picture frames with your favourite photos in.

Why leave things stored away when you’ll find that they could enjoy a better position within the home by being on display instead?

Focus On Purposes

From here, you’re going to want to try and keep a level head when you’re going through each room. To keep it organized, make sure that you focus on the purpose of each room and the things that you want in them.

If you know that the things you’re organizing have a purpose in that space, then you’ll have a better chance of things actually staying organized and on track.

Be Inventive With Storage

Now, what are you to do when you’re trying to make sure that everything stays organized, but then you run out of room? Because it’s not always easy to work out how you’re going to store things – particularly in cramped spaces.

Take a look at creative storage for small spaces tips to help you out instead. When you’re a little more inventive with things, you should find that it’s easier to keep things organized.

Bring In Help

Don’t feel like you have to do this alone. If you’re really worried about how to get through all of it, then ask your partner, friend, or family member to help you. With someone there to help, you should find that you’re making things more efficient.

Take Power Breaks

And if you’re really going to be able to make the most of things, then make sure that you’re taking breaks too. It’s often not enough to just go room by room or even ask for help.

Sometimes, you need to go one step further and take breaks. So why not think about making some energy-boosting snacks to get you through every so hour?

Or you could even spread things out over a few days. This is why you go room by room, so you have the option of doing just that and getting through it all in your own time.

Have A Sale

Finally, at the end of things, you may find that it’s a good idea to sell some of the things that you want to get rid of at the end of the decluttering process.

As you’re going through, it can be handy to have piles for throwing out (things that really are junk), donations to charity, and then also things that you can sell.

If there’s anything that you think will go to a better home and you could get a good bit of money back on, then definitely sell it. Then, you will find that you’ve made a bit of money in the process too!
