Loaded potato wedges on a diet

Wedges are a healthy meal option when eaten as part of a balanced diet, but they can become boring very fast, especially if you eat them often you can spice them up by making them into loaded wedges instead of just plain old wedges.

Loaded potato wedges can be a satisfying and delicious meal option for those following a Slimming World plan. They are popular as a side dish or on their own when topped with a variety of ingredients. They’re easy to make and taste great.

Not only are they a great addition to a meal but potatoes are a great source of fibre. These complex carbohydrates, provide you with long-lasting energy and they help to keep you feeling full for longer.

This means that you’ll be less likely to snack on unhealthy foods between meals or later at night if you have them for your evening meal.

Choosing the best ingredients to make Slimming World loaded potato wedges

Using ingredients such as low-fat cheeses and lean proteins like chicken or turkey can help keep the syns or calorie count down of your meal without compromising on its flavour or texture.

Also by adding vegetables like peppers and/or onions you can easily increase the nutrient content of the dish and add more flavour without adding many calories.

Baking the wedges instead of frying can help reduce the calorie count too. The good thing is that potato wedges can be cooked in an oven or air fryer which will reduce your cooking time and the use of oil too.

If you are planning to cook loaded wedges in an air fryer I would recommend that you use a liner (make sure you purchase one suitable for your make of air fryer) so that all the sauce and or flavour is contained and stays on your wedges.

Chilli Con Carne is a great topping to add to your potato wedges. It’s filling, tastes great and can be a healthy option if you use 5% minced beef or Quorn.

If you have any leftover chilli from the night before this is perfect to add to your wedges. It not only saves time but the chilli often tastes better when it is used at a later date.

When preparing your chilli you could make extra to freeze so that it can be used at a later date. If you are planning to use it the following day it will be fine in the fridge overnight.

Whether you choose a meat, vegetarian or vegan chilli it will be sure to give your wedges a new and exciting twist.

Both Pulled Pork and Pulled Chicken depending on what you fancy would be a great addition to your wedges. As with chilli, you can make this beforehand or use any leftovers you may have.

Cheese and Bacon

Once you have baked your wedges the way you like, why not added pieces of crispy bacon?

Simply cut off any pieces of visible fat and fry in Frylight or a little vegetable oil or no oil at all (if you use an air fryer it will be quicker but you may need to use a liner if you’ve already chopped your bacon into small pieces).

Grate your favourite cheese and sprinkle both over the wedges and put them back in the oven for a few minutes until the cheese is melted. Serve with salad and a dip or dressing of your choice.
